Since today is Saturday, that meant that last night was Friday night, and the very loud and aggressive/obnoxious music was blasting from the Soggy Dollar Bar until about 03:30. It might be the distance from the speakers, but whenever I heard a voice over the deep bass rhythmic thumping it sounded like he was trying to incite a riot rather than let people party.
I headed in to Lagoonie’s for the Saturday swap meet, but apart from the LiFePo4 batteries there was little of interest and I realized that many of the group of sailors I hear on the VHF every morning are not part of the stereotypical yachties who only ask each other for Grey Poupon mustard, but are people who are on a tight budget despite having a sailboat and travelling in the in Caribbean.
The one solar panel that had been on the fore-deck during storage had turned milky, so I gave it a very long good cleaning (I got most of it off, I believe the discoloration was wax residue that hadn’t been removed) before putting it up on the bimini in preparation for measuring the location and subsequently having the Velcro panels sewn on for it. The solar electrical panel is now complete and hidden away and the ugly wires that had been strung across my main cabin are now finally gone and I’m quite happy with my solar panels so far.
I headed ashore for my fill of weekend entertainment and watched the 17:00 bridge opening and later saw the sunset with what might have been a bit of green flash from the beach at Buccaneer’s and then wandered around for a while watching the revelers; just as I started feeling peckish I walked past the McDonald’s by the Dutch bridge and, in a moment of weakness, went in and got a Big Mac. This was my first in a couple of years and it was very tasty, but I was surprised that purchasing a Big Mac all by itself was more expensive than getting a combination of big soft drink, fries and the Big Mac!
