Well, this is my second attempt at writing today’s entry, since I mistakenly turned the power off and I’m working on my little Gigabyte BRIC computer rather than a battery-operated notebook and all my typing wasn’t saved in time. I hit the bank this morning to get cash in order to pay Eric, Africa and other local craftsmen for their work. It was a nice, albeit rather short-lived, feeling to have a thick bundle of bills in hand.
The batteries seem to be charging well, nothing is smoking, burning or otherwise singalling me that something has gone awry! I hope that the bank will be fully charged by this evening and hope that the batteries, which I’ve attempted to treat nicely since getting the boat, will forgive my letting them drain down to nothing this summer. The refrigerator is cooling down the liquid contents, so I’m going to head back into town in order to purchase more groceries and get much of my provisioning done. Once “Zanshin” is back in the water I’ll get the freezer up and running and cooled down in preparation for frozen meats and other storage items. I’m looking forward to my first BBQ steak aboard!
Instead of heading into town for provisioning, I opted for a scenic tour of the island in the afternoon and invited a gent who is also staying at the hotel along. He’s waiting for his sailboat to arrive so that he can hop aboard for a passage to Grenada, and I know how stifling Nanny Cay can be! We did the grand island circumnavigation with a couple of photo stops along the way and some T-Shirt shopping at Aragorn in Trellis Bay. In Road Town we searched for a water carbonation system, but none of the stores carried (or had even heard) of such a device. This means I get to pay top dollar for carbonated water for a bit longer.
We had a happy hour libation at Peg Legs and a fine burger at Captain Mulligan’s for dinner to finish off the day. Once again I was surprised how tired I was despite not having done all that much at all for most of the day. I
