Winds again today. This time with a bit of variety, since at times the winds stop almost completely, then sweep in from a new direction at speed. My snubber is doing a lot of work today as I swing around at anchor. Some of the newcomers (who look a bit bedraggled from the weather out there) have trouble anchoring but so far nobody has dragged; although I kept my VHF on last night and caught a couple of conversations between two boats here in the anchorage, a catamaran was being warned that it was dragging and the two boats spoke for a while. It re-anchored but about an hour later there was another call regarding the same catamaran dragging again.
As it is Easter Sunday today, I didn’t even try to go ashore but gather, from Les on Golightly that I would have been in luck and gotten a baguette had I ventured into these troubled waters and dinghied ashore! Instead I spent some time working on the watermaker. The through-hull and valve area for the saltwater supply for the watermaker had a very slow and small leak that I finally tracked down (some tubing hadn’t been tightened) and fixed, then I cleaned the intake filter and documented some strange issues that I’ve been having recently with the watermaker and sent that off to the manufacturer so that they could comment on it. The video turned out to be too large for an e-mail attachment, so I ended up putting on my YouTube page.
Then I defrosted the refrigerator, as the evaporator plate had a thick covering of frost on it, using the opportunity to thoroughly clean the whole interior and all of the baskets and shelving at the same time. Defrosting the freezer is a lot easier, since the evaporator plates are vertical and I can reach them with the hose from the kitchen sink and quickly melt all of the ice. But I kept melting the ice by hand in the fridge and it wasn’t too much more than hour later when I could return the contents (which had been cooling in the freezer) to their rightful place and turn the fridge back on.
Les and I went ashore for dinner and drinks, I wanted to return to a restaurant close to the dinghy dock where I’d been before and had a very tasty meal. The place is called Le Mahina and it is a bar/pizzeria and tapas place with excellent ambiance and food. I was pleasantly surprised to see a bit of home on tap and quickly ordered two half-litres of Bitburger for us and it went down surprisingly well and quickly! We each ordered a different pizza and shared the piping-hot and tasty meal when it arrived, accompanied by yet another Bitburger. As I’d been travelling with Katzenellenbogen for the last weeks I realized that with the exception of the little restaurant in Dominica I hadn’t eaten out ashore in a very long time indeed!
