2014 Trip 2014-02-02

The big waves of over 2m outside are still making sleep a bit uncomfortable with a rolling motion of Zanshin. I woke up very early, with the sun, and decided to stay awake rather than try to steal another hour or two of sleep. I played around on the computer while drinking coffee, getting a bit of exercise every 10-15 minutes by standing up and closing all the hatches, then, once the showers had passed, standing up and opening them again. Despite the lack of sunshine, it does get rather hot and sticky belowdecks when everything is buttoned down.

After digesting a breakfast of eggs and bacon along with coffee I put together the dive gear again and headed out to Creole Rock. Getting into the suit and preparing the dive equipment went much faster this time, and I was soon below the waves but visibility was miserable. The waves from outside were wrapping around both sides of the Rocks and stirring up the bottom, plus the groundswell even at 20 feet was significant and erratic. But I persevered and practiced breath and altitude control. One rather shy fish had me spending 15 minutes lying outside its hole waiting for it to come out and say “Hello!”; luckily this was at a depth of 15 feet. The deepest part of the dive was 30 feet and in total I was underneath the surface for just shy of an hour and still have more than half my tank; nonetheless I’ll fill it up tonight when the generator gets some exercise.

I managed to get part 1 of the LED installation finalized. The double-sided sticky tape I’d used to attach the LED strip to the underside of the bimini hadn’t held for a day, so I used some more clear fishing line to invisibly tie the strip to the canvas. Once I get access to the internet I’ll have to find information on how to tie thin fishing line, that subject isn’t dealt with in my various rope and knot books; I am certain that there’s a whole family of knots out there since the standard ones I’ve tried don’t hold very well in the small and extremely slippery line.

I’m still rather under the weather from the medication but today I had the feeling that the swelling went down a little bit, so I remain cautiously optimistic that the antibiotics and anti-inflammatories will produce the desired results instead of letting me get far too much quality time in the head.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
