I don’t know where today’s hours disappeared to, I worked inside on getting the water filters cleaned, checked strainers, cleaned the bilge areas and the galley. Bjorn of Susanne af Stockholm dropped by with an air bottle that I’d said I’d fill using my compressor and after I walked the docks for a bit I finally took him up on his offer to take a look at the yacht. She is an impressive boat with sleek styling inside and very large cabins main salon. The decks are just impressive with massive fittings for the big sails and large expanses of teak. The technology aboard is much more varied and complex than on smaller boats such as mine – the swing keel is lifted by large hydraulic rams that pull very large dyneema lines she has twin screws driven by two engines; plus all of the items such as water maker and generators and hydraulic pumps are dimensioned accordingly. What I found fascinating is that all these varied systems plus the 24V DC and 220V AC is all controlled by a central touch-screen system at the navigation station – the whole boat is controlled by a panel less complicated than mine!
Rauten, one of the crew members, spends the twilight time with a local fisherman on the docks, using a line with hooks and no bait to hook small fry, which are then used on bigger lines as bait. He caught a very large fish during the day and quite a crowd gathered to see the master fisherman at work!
Later on in the evening, Bjorn, Rauten and Marcelle came aboard to help me finally empty the two bottles of bubbly that had been occupying valuable real estate in my fridge for over a month. The sparkling wine isn’t a champagne, but the taste is very nice for an inexpensive drinking sparkling wine (Trivento then look for Brut Nature). After the bubbly I had an opportunity to get rid of some of the rum I’d bought but they consumed only tiny amounts and after that we talked for a bit and then looked at the camera gear I have for the Nikon, as Marcella is trying to choose between the Nikon and Canon lines of cameras.
