Morning Hours
Since Europe switched to summertime over the weekend, my work calls are now one hour earlier. That means getting up before dawn on occasion, but it is a small price to pay for being in the Caribbean.
It wasn’t until I was about to finish up work for the day that I realized both Friday and Monday were holidays, and I had a long weekend ahead of me. In addition, I’ve got some days off for the upcoming Antigua Sailing Week as well.
Afternoon
I got the cockpit cushions cleaned and attached, and the paddlewheel for the speedometer has been cleaned (soaked in vinegar for 2 days, then scrubbed with a toothbrush to remove sediment). Replacing that wheel is always a bit messy. I have to remove the “blank” plug and then quickly replace it with the live one. There is a little rubber flap that is supposed to prevent water from coming in too quickly, but it rarely works as designed. So I have to mop up the mess and then use freshwater to clean out that section of the bilge.
Evening
I had planned on going to the big birthday bash at Out Out. I got my shaving kit ready, jumped into the shower, and, just as I was about to wash the lather away, something happened to my freshwater supply, and the shower started spurting air and water. I removed as much of the soap as possible and found that my freshwater pump was running dry. The water tanks are still full, so it is most likely a new leak on the supply side. I couldn’t find it in the dark and postponed that task to the next day.
I didn’t shave, but went ashore for a bite to eat, then to the bar. The Mexican place had just gotten its smoker running, and I ordered up a portion of brisket. I had to order by weight, and since I have no idea of portion size in ounces, I just asked for a normal portion size. The chef evidently has a different view on portioning, and I had a large plate of brisket to contend with. It was so tasty that I managed to eat it all.
After that, I was so sated that I headed straight back to Zanshin and read my book for a bit before calling it an early night.
