Departing Jolly

Mike and I left Jolly Harbor on Trekka at 08:00 in the morning and proceeded under both sail and small outboard towards St. Johns. The cargo vessel Dolfijngracht was already at the dock, and we were scheduled for a 10:00 am haul.
The sail was interesting, and I found myself wondering whether I could sail this minuscule craft across an ocean. I came to the conclusion that I probably couldn’t. She was quite tender even in the light winds and slammed in the small waves we encountered heading upwind.

When we sailed into the large St. Johns harbor, we saw that our vessel still had the yellow Q-Flag up, and Mike got a text message that there would be “delays”. In the end, we tied up to a commercial vessel in the far corner of the harbor, close to the 3 cruise ships that were docked for the day.
Noon
Noon came around, and we still had no loading time, so everyone went off for lunch. Subsequently, we were told we could head over to the cargo ship, and shortly thereafter, the loading process began. Although we were #2 in line, another 5.80 snuck ahead of us, and it took quite a while before Trekka was hauled on board and the loadmasters began chocking her and welding the frames to the deck.
Afternoon

Since there was no shade aboard either Trekka or the cargo vessel, I was quite toasty, and soon my arms and legs started taking on a bright cherry-red hue. But I think I escaped a major burn and might even take on a tan, unless I start peeling in the next couple of days. Mike and I took a cab back to Jolly and enjoyed some refreshing, ice-cold happy-hour brews as the day wound down.
