Boatyard Woes

I still haven’t gotten into the water. During the simple job of replacing the shear pins on my bow thruster, it was discovered that the gearbox had split and needed to be replaced. Since there’s now a great big hole in the front of the boat where the bow thruster assembly sits, I can’t get splashed. The replacement part is available in St. Martin, and I emergency-shipped it here yesterday. Budget Marine says it could arrive as early as Monday – but I don’t trust them.

Mini Globe Race

The Mini Globe Race started here in Antigua just over a year ago, and the prizegiving ceremonies were held today. 11 finishers were lauded for their incredible achievement of sailing around the world singlehanded in 19-foot-long homebuilt sailboats. That’s just 3 feet longer than the width of my boat! I spoke with several of them, and each had a different story to tell about what was easy, what was tough, and what challenged them the most.
