Antigua & Barbuda

Each year, when the hurricane season approaches and I return to Europe, I need to decide where to store Zanshin. This hurricane season, I opted to store Zanshin at Jolly Harbor in Antigua for the summer and winter break. I had initially planned to return to St. Lucia, but the quote I received from them for long-term storage was almost double what I’d paid in years past, so I opted for storage on the hardstand in Antigua. After I’d committed to Antigua, the Rodney Bay Marina got back to me with a realistic offer I would have taken had I been able to.
Transatlantic sail

From Antigua, I joined Lincoln aboard Cyrilla for a transatlantic sail from St. Kitts to the Azores. The trip took 3 weeks of sailing, and we had a good, but slow, passage across. Even though I’d sailed to and from the Caribbean and the USA several times, those passages were much faster, and my slowest transit was 9 days. This trip was more than double that, albeit with good company. We passed very close to the Atlantic pole of Inaccessibility and were as far away from land in any direction but down as we could get in the Atlantic Ocean.
Back in Europe

From the Azores, I flew back to Germany and returned to my newly acquired renovation project. Sailors speak in hushed and trembling voices when talking about transiting the Bay of Biscay, but my plane had no issues doing so, and I got a great view of London to boot.
Winter is nigh

2025-10-24: The hurricane season is still in full swing. Currently, storm “Melissa” Hurricane Melissa is raging in the Caribbean Basin and seems to be undecided on where to go next. It is cold and rainy here, and I’m looking forward to returning to warmer sunny regions soon.

I shifted the wood from the garage to the inner courtyard to keep it closer to the fireplaces and to add a bit of rustic insulation to one outer wall. I realize it won’t do much to keep the cold out, but it looks nice.
