2025-04-24 Warm and Sunny

Daybreak

I’d neglected to shut the hatches last night. I hadn’t expected the rain that came. The floorboards in the main cabin were quickly mopped up in the morning. I had no conference calls to participate in; I just did some remote work on the computer before my upcoming vacation.

One interlude was to go ashore to talk with the Sunsail repair crew, whom I’d called in because the main refrigerator/freezer wasn’t working. The cold plate should freeze over immediately after turning the system on. It remained only slightly less warm than the ambient air. The compressor was running, so I’m assuming it had leaked refrigerant and required a top-up.

We had a bit of work to do on the committee boat today, but the majority of our work is going to be performed tomorrow. At that time, we’ll set up the flags and other race equipment.

The Race Officers and skippers joined with ABSAR (Antigua-Barbuda Search and Rescue) and management at 16:00 to discuss safety procedures and protocol.

The next meeting was Paul Jackson addressing all the volunteers on the committee boats to discuss upcoming roles and there was a bit of personnel shuffling around done. We now have Marguerite and Zed doing flags, while her husband is skipper of the other committee boat.

The final meeting of the day was the general welcome meeting for all volunteers. This was by far the biggest, not only because it encompassed everyone, but because there was free food and drink made available in copious quantities.

It had been warm and sunny during the day, and it was comfortably warm outside. Then a bit of light rain set in, and the wind stopped, making it muggy for a while.

A number of us went to Trappas for dinner. This was a tactical decision, as it gets very full in there during the sailing week and consequently the service slows down. The company and meal were excellent, and we returned just after 21:00. I’m fairly certain we all headed back to rest up before the busy next couple of days.
