2025-04-11 Le Weekend approaches

Early Morning

I woke up very early and have been active at work for a couple of hours already. At 07:00, I’m taking a break as Le Weekend approaches rapidly. Fortunately, most people at work leave early on Fridays, and with the 6-hour time difference, that means that I’m alone in the virtual office for much of the day. Fewer distractions equate to a productive day for me.

Lunch
Bed assembled and no diesel smell
Non-smelly aft cabin

I walked over to the main marina to get a sandwich from the bakery there and also took care of my rigging inspection payment on the same journey. Then I tried to find a replacement windlass gypsy (the part that grabs the anchor chain and raises/lowers it) since mine has started slipping. Unfortunately, I didn’t find a suitable replacement but discovered that my current chain (10mm diameter high-tensile with a 28mm pitch) doesn’t match the gypsy (which is for 12mm diameter chain). I’m a bit disappointed with Jeanneau on this, as 12mm is their usual diameter, but I purchased the smaller diameter 10mm chain with an extra tensile strength that almost matched that of the 12mm. They gave me that chain but didn’t change the gypsy at the same time. This explains why it was always a bit clunky to operate and why it has now worn the gypsy teeth out.

Le Weekend

approaches and started with Pine Sol in the aft cabin to remove any remaining vestiges of diesel. I managed to cut my right hand yesterday and am using latex gloves on that hand to keep the bandage and wound dry. It is surprising how much hands sweat when inside gloves.

I thought I’d found a replacement for the gypsy and brought my €350 baby back to the boat. There are 2 models available from Lewmar, and I only missed it by that much!

It was still (semi) working

The cockpit speakers are both still working but are missing all bass and sound scratchy. I purchased some replacements and was surprised that the old ones still worked! The news fit right in place and certainly sounded a lot better.
