2025-04-10 More boat maintenance

Morning

I opted to skip my 03:00 AM conference call and didn’t begin work in my home office until 3 hours later. Home office work is progressing well as I write this at 09:30. Afterwards, I’ll be doing boat maintenance, and that won’t progress as smoothly. I’d contacted a local rigging company to have them check the standing rigging, and they worked for about 45 minutes. Unfortunately, they discovered a slightly cracked fitting for the starboard D1, then said the D3s on both sides were corroded badly and would also need replacing. The whole rig is a bit loose (which I knew), and the forestay needs tensioning as well. They’ve gone back to do their report and check to see when this work could be done. It is the busy time of year, so the odds aren’t that good. I’ll find out soon…

The “D” stands for “Diagonal” and “V” for “Vertical”. The numbers start at the deck with 1.

Noon

My home office work became difficult after I wrote the text above. Never let a computer know you are in a hurry! I’ve not left my seat in hours and haven’t made any progress. I’m close to giving it up for today and doing my boat maintenance instead.

Unhappy Hour(s)

I spent many fruitless hours at work trying to narrow down a problem in the software package we’ve been testing. Then came the “eureka” moment when I saw that I could make the error appear and disappear by adding or removing some unrelated trailing text. Sometimes software is finicky like that! At least I made progress with the aft cabin rebuild.

I’m going to spend one more night forward before transitioning back to my master suite aft. I’m still working on cleaning any residual traces of diesel and sweat from the surfaces aft and still hope that the incessant creaking of the floorboards remains short-lived.
