It had been a calm night in Nevis. But the rest of the trip south was going to be quite different indeed. As I left in the early morning hours, the winds picked up and once clear of the southern tip of the island the full force of the wind hit me.

While it wasn’t particularly strong, it came from the wrong direction and my normal sailing angle wouldn’t help me reach my distant destination of St. Lucia. So, I had to motorsail for a bit, and also try to tack to get some easting.

There were large squalls passing by overhead and I did get drenched twice when I couldn’t avoid the heavy rains.
