Sunrise

I still had a number of home-office work items to take care of; I’d started a program migration in the Data Warehouse that hadn’t quite completed, and I needed lots of time for cleanup and corrections.

John had left early to work on another boat, so I was left to my own devices, mixing my time between remote work and cleaning up on the boat. I did have a nasty time in the morning with my aft toilet. The electric pump and flushing mechanism suddenly started giving off a very loud whining/buzzing sound. I put some disinfectant and vinegar in to let it soak a bit before taking the toilet apart to investigate this new problem. I flushed out my cleaning solution and donned latex gloves and began disassembling the toilet. This is not my favourite task in the best of times, and today wasn’t the best of times with the windless hot conditions.

Just before I got the 4 holding screws off, I noticed that there was a little bit of plastic showing in the bottom of the bowl. I pulled it out and discovered 75% of an earbud (formerly known as a Q-Tip).  I don’t know how that got in there, but it was the cause of the problem. Had I not noticed that before removing those 4 screws it would have been a messy situation and replacing that part is always quite difficult for me.

Noon

I think I might postpone my tasks this afternoon, it is quite hot, and I’d only done about 10 minutes of work in the aft garage before thinking about getting out of the sun and cooling off.

I’ve done a lot of computer work on the remote systems, as my big software update didn’t go as planned and incurred a lot of extra effort.

Cleaning the garage remained on my agenda until the heat of the day caused me to give that up on the second attempt.

I missed the 16:00 outbound bridge opening – it would have been nice to swim in the ocean a bit and the waters here in the lagoon do not look particularly appealing.
