Early Morning
John and I got up early in preparation for going ashore to our respective jobs at ASW 2024. I went to Committee Boat “A” while John had volunteered for the small Committee Boat “C” (I was only to find out later how small that boat really was).
We’d prepared the day before and our team had worked together before, so we knew what was ahead and it was low stress. We got off the dock from our inner position after Committee Boat “B” had left and had a short trip to our initial position at the Windward start area.
First Races
The conditions were excellent for both the racers and for us on the committee boat. We had sufficient wind to make for good racing and no major swell to contend with on the committee boat. The first set of races was started with nary a hitch aboard the committee boat.
Racing and Return
We gave the smaller CSA6 class a total of 3 races while all the other classes only did 2 races – albeit much longer ones that kept them busy for hours. The finishes were quite easy to do, as the boats were coming upwind to the finish line and we could identify them long before they crossed the line.
