Morning
I had a difficult morning, both at work and dealing with the service department at Electec. The work stuff I can deal with, since that’s what I’m getting paid for. But I’m absolutely livid with Electec.
Rewind to last week Monday, the technician diagnosed valve issues with the generator engine and left, saying that it would take about 4 days for a new engine gasket to get shipped, as they don’t stock it.
I e-mailed Electec and asked when the technician was going to come this week, and it took a couple of hours for a reply to arrive – I was told that the gasket was a special order and I’d have to pay for it ahead of time and attached an invoice (dated 10 minutes prior to their sending the mail). There was no apology, not even a hint of one. The technician had told me he’d order the part, and ostensibly had informed the purchasing department. So I’ve wasted a whole week waiting, and I think had I not contacted them they would have just ignored the situation until I complained.
I sent another e-mail and politely told them that had they admitted to having dropped the ball I would only have been disappointed and unhappy – but now I was livid. They responded with an e-mail starting off saying they were sorry. Then stated that they expected payment in full before they would order, and they couldn’t promise a delivery date, but they would charge me expedited shipping. And that once the gasket arrived, they would see about scheduling a technician.
I no longer believe that I can trust them regarding anything at all and am looking into alternatives. The generator engine is a standard Kubota V1505 4-cylinder diesel used in everything from tractors to snow blowers and other small vehicles. I’ve not removed a top-end myself but am sure I can find someone else to do this. In addition, the Kubota gasket set is 1/4 of the price of the same set from Electec.
Later
The last inbound bridge at 16:00 had lots of boats come in to escape the incoming north swell. Two of them anchored far too close to me, actually in the channel. One of them is a Jeanneau 57 with the same colour scheme as Zanshin, but they ignored my request to anchor further away. This will get interesting when the winds shift at 03:0AM tomorrow!
Soggy and Hung Fu
I had a couple of happy hour libations at the Soggy dollar prior to heading across the road to Hung Fu with John and Gary. They knew what to order (Chicken Potato) while I ordered a simple Beef Szechuan – it turned out their combined bill was less than mine. Next time, I’ll go for what the locals order!
