A slow start
The day started early at sunrise, but I did not gather any momentum at all to complete my planned work tasks. The coffee got me going, but I ran out of beans on my second cup so I couldn’t use caffeine to get going.
I had some computer work to do, including firing up my little ancient NAS onboard and starting a backup of all my files. The old ReadyNAS 104 has long been out of production and while it doesn’t run on steam, it counts as an antique in the computer world. The backup is going to run 8 hours due to the slow writing speed of the device.
I did do some online shopping at Amazon in the USA for parts that I need – light switches, LED light replacements, a touchscreen for a Raspberry PI which also will function as a display for my CerboGX device (US$60 vs US$300 made that choice a no-brainer). Then I ordered some timed relays from the U.K. for my shower sumps.
Noon
I really should do some work in cleaning up the boat or going topsides to remove some rust from the stanchions and other steel hardware. Those pesky little bits of tarpaulin are all over and I’ll use the vacuum cleaner to suck them up; but I’m going to wait for the generator to get repaired so that I can really charge up my battery bank prior to doing that. It is a bit cloudy today, so my solar input is a bit less than on previous days, and the computer and NAS are using 100% CPU so are drawing more power than the panels are putting in.
Afternoon
The winds are dying down, and a day from now the storm system to the north is going to make things very interesting here. I’m not sure if I’m going to the leave the lagoon and brave the north swell outside or if I am going to set a kedge anchor when the winds back from ESE to West!
Ashore at Kim Sha
I decided to go to Buccaneers at Kim Sha beach today for the sunset, stopping on the way at the police/customs dock to drop off my garbage. I saw a nice document case leaning on the fence and found that it contained the boat papers for Adela – the skipper had evidently left it there after clearing the 12 passengers/crew out. I went inside to see if I could find out where they were and an agent for CWA recognized the carrying case and said he’d ensure that the boat’s agent would get it. I hope that they weren’t halfway to Antigua, as the papers stated that was the next destination.
