Anchored off Sandy Island, wonderful view again
Sandy Island view

I’m spending the day, and the upcoming night, at Sandy Island again. The alternatives are all less attractive than this wonderful anchorage and idyllic location. The park rangers came by earlier and collected the daily fee, but it is still worth it.

I’ve been making a lot of progress at work, assisted by the calm conditions aboard Zanshin compared to the rolling and rocking I’ve experienced in past days. But I can sense the sands running silently in the hourglass and counting down the time remaining here in the Caribbean; soon I’ll put Zanshin on the hardstand and return to Europe. The time has come where the temptations of what can be done in a big city are stronger than the wish to be on sandy beaches in Grenada.

Afternoon

I did my obligatory swim, armed with my scraper, around Zanshin’s hull today. The waterline has some very difficult to remove weed and the hull is getting kind of crusty. I’ve come to realize what a boon functioning anti-fouling really is. It is truly astounding how quickly growth takes hold and proliferates without appropriate chemical countermeasures.

Evening

I’ve now got some sausages thawing and I’ve taken the local potatoes from the fridge in preparation for boiling. I’ll make a simple meal tonight; although the potatoes don’t look particularly appetizing and might be somewhat past their “best by” date. At least they don’t have strange growths or green fungus growing on them – which is what caused my last batch of tubers to walk the plank.

After dinner, I sat outside and enjoyed the spectacle of stars twinkling overhead. That visual was accompanied by the soft background noise of waves hitting the windward side of Sandy Island.
