2023-07-07 Le Weekend

The night was a bit rolly again, but nothing compared to some of the nights in St. Martin. I got started early at work because Le Weekend is about to begin. The sooner I start work, the sooner I can finish office work, and start boat work.

The schooner departed in the morning, leaving the anchorage once again empty with just Sea Life and Zanshin at anchor. But I’m sure that this afternoon we’ll get some boats coming in for the weekend. The weather forecast is for sunshine and low winds, although it is currently blowing over 15 knots out between Carriacou and distant Union Island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
Morning
Feeding time and almost Le Weekend
Feeding time
I had to run the engine to charge my dying batteries this morning, and used the time to exercise the watermaker as well and fill up my water tank. I hadn’t used much water, so at 1l/minute I only needed 50 minutes to top up. The Friday is dragging and Le Weekend still seems far away.
Afternoon
There is a bit of a front coming, so I chose to snorkel at the Rock which give Anse la Roche its name before the light faded. The small old GoPro works, but compared to modern equipment the 15-year old technology is certainly dated.

The snorkelling was fun, although due to low tide I couldn’t circle all the way around because it was too shallow between the rock and the shore. I’m going to have to check out my underwater camera housing, some of those pictures should have been stunning rather than merely interesting…

Boats in the anchorage

Two burgers have wandered from the freezer to the fridge and will get their chance on the BBQ tonight. Now that the rolling has ceased, this is one of those anchorages which epitomize the wonders of the Caribbean. It is hard to imagine a better locale. It’s (now) calm, protected. It has a soft sand beach within swimming distance. Clear waters, shallow and quiet. A true tropical paradise.  If only the restaurant ashore served beer rather than rum drinks 🙂
