Long Night
I kept anchor watch most of this washed out night. Despite having re-anchored to get some separation from my moored neighbour, the wind shifts and gusts brought me too close for comfort. So I dozed in the cockpit or otherwise stayed awake while keeping a lookout at my neighbour. Little does he know that I kept an eye on his frayed mooring line at the same time and had a horn warning signal ready should it break.
Morning
The coffee hasn’t perked me up for my morning meetings the way it usually does. At least the weather is keeping me from getting distracted at work and I’m making progress in the virtual office.
Noon
I just dumped the remains of the cold coffee and realize why it hasn’t tasted right today. My milk has curdled and gone sour. That explains both the bad taste and my current stomach ache. At least it curbs my appetite.
It remains washed out today with mild rain and lots of clouds and even more wind. The forecast for tonight is even windier than yesterday. The wind direction is better for separating Zanshin from our neighbour, though. I did get a bit close last night.
Afternoon
After using a bucket to drain the dinghy, I called up the Paradise Beach Club on the VHF and asked them to pick me up next time they came around the anchorage. I wanted to go ashore, and also didn’t feel like cooking.
I knew it would take a while for them to arrive, so I fired up the engine to charge the batteries. After running a while I thought that the exhaust sounded odd (the exhaust on boats is a mix of hot gases and water) and found that I’d tied the dinghy up right underneath the exhaust. I’ll have to use the bucket again, only this time it’ll be saltwater and not rainwater.
Today is the 4th of July holiday, so the restaurant was booked solid and after a happy-hour drink or two I returned, hungry, to the boat. I warmed up the remains of my pasta and Bolognese sauce from the previous day.
