I’ve got another busy morning, those work production system problems have caused a bit of furore and there’s some analysis, testing and modification work to be done. I had to don a polo shirt with a collar so that I’d look presentable in the video conferences. Outside I’ve got both sun and rain alternating for control of skies.
Morning
The conditions are beautiful again here in St. Pierre. The waves have subsided and the sun is shining. The breeze comes and goes, and the coffee is fresh and tasty. Things could be a lot worse.
I am getting a good workout from standing up, closing all the hatches, then sitting back down again. And once the thunderstorm or showers pass by, I get up again and use my pushrod to open all the hatches again.
Noon
I should go ashore once I’m finished at work, but the constant onset of short-lived showers is keeping my aboard right now. If the weather clears up a bit I’ll take that 1-mile dinghy ride into town. I’ll take my gasoline canister along, as I’m running low on outboard fuel.
Afternoon
Sun and rain – which will I get if depart the boat? I still had no certainty about making it ashore and back without getting drenched. But once I finish up at work I think I’ll take my chances and head to St. Pierre.
I completed my day’s allotted work and once again scooped lots of water from the dinghy. My goal was to refuel with a canister of gas and another canister of diesel. I’d seen that there was another dock at the far end of town, and that was just a 100 meters from a gas station so off I went.
The dock was just a collection of floating pontoons and was not a dinghy destination but meant for the commercial fishers. I tied up anyway and walked to the gas station to get my fuel. I was happy to see some Heineken in fridge there and got some bottles – the local Corsaire and 1664 from France aren’t to my liking. In comparison, the Heineken was like finding a prize vintage Bordeaux among the MD 20/20 in the shelves.
Dinner
I took 2 frozen hamburger patties from the freezer and they are thawing out. I’ll put them on the grill with some onions and hamburger buns (which I found in the store yesterday) along with tomatoes and mustard. The mustard is French, they didn’t have French’s mustard and I doubt they sell it in France…
The burgers are small, actually they are perfectly sized for European tastes. Your average American would scoff and dismiss them. But they should suffice for a tasty dinner from the BBQ grill. I’ll down my Heinies with them and watch the stars as I eat outside.
