Morning
The computer was particularly bad this morning, requiring several restarts before it worked. The Blue Screen of Death has different error codes each time; but I think this is going to be a memory issue or a video memory issue. Since the video card is integrated, I can’t do anything if that is the root cause. I’m going to do my shopping by car for parts today.
But I’ve taken out one of the two 16GB DDR4 boards and reseated the remaining one. So far, no reboot. I’ll get one memory at the computer store in the industrial zone, that’s going to be a worthwhile 60Euro investment.
I should have been warned by the number of closed stores – just about everything is closed due to today’s Slavery Abolition Holiday here in Guadeloupe. It was a long drive each way, and a waste of an extra day on my rental car, too!
Noon
I returned the car and got 2 baguettes and a cheese sandwich for a meal. I’m back aboard now, and resting in the light wind and sun while I figure out my game plan.
Afternoon
The plan was a simple one – do nothing. I was quite successful at that one. Towards evening I went ashore to see if the little grocery store might be open. It was, so I did a bit of shopping.
I returned my groceries to Zanshin and went back ashore to find a place to eat dinner. Few restaurants were open, so I defaulted to my favorite one and once again dined at Le Coin des Pecheurs. I asked the waitress why, with so many non-French-speaking guests, they didn’t put together an English menu.
She had a Gallic shrug in answer to that and said things don’t change much in Deshaies. While that didn’t directly answer the question, it meant that there wasn’t going to be an English translation forthcoming any time soon. The find meal was a success, unlike my shopping by car experience in the morning.
