2023-05-10 Work and the Volunteer party

The day started early for me. I needed my first coffee because I was still a bit under the weather. The previous evening had offered a delicious meal, but I’d mixed beer and wine and should have known better.

Morning
Nemo and Black Pearl heading to Green Island

I finished my editing of the pictures from the previous day and posted them at Antigua-Bermuda race starts. Then back to the testing of software and searching for bugs in Linux bash scripts.

Afternoon and Evening

I continued my remote work and put together some examples and tests before calling it a day around 17::00. A quick shower, shave and dressing in a volunteer polo shirt and I was ready to go. I headed towards the National Sailing Academy for the volunteer party.

I knew that the approach to the dinghy dock had a reef in the way, but wasn’t sure where it is located. Fortunately, Richard passed me on his dinghy with the same destination and I followed in his wake. I’m certain that had I not been following him, I would have touched the reef. The correct path is very close to shore, almost at the shoreline. Anything further away is going to be rocky and bumpy.

There was free food and alcohol to be had and we socialized for a while until Alison started her talk thanking the volunteers, naming those who’d done outstanding work and also handing out some prizes to those who had earned them.  There were a lot of shirts, caps and other items spread out on a table. We were told that this was freely available and that one should limit oneself to 2 items. There was a bit of a rush and soon the table was picked clean; I think that not everyone held themselves to that 2-item limit. I’d foregone getting swag as I figured that others had worked harder and longer to earn it.
