Today marked Heineken Regatta Day 4. It was the last day of the Heineken Regatta and was a relatively short day for the committee boat. Our PRO needed to ensure that all the racers would make it back into Simpson Bay for the 3PM bridge opening.
That would give them time to get ready for the big prizegiving ceremony on the main stage. Some of our classes were sent on 2 races. The others were borderline given the course lengths and prevailing winds, so Mark decided to cancel their second races.
The conditions on the course were excellent. The winds had died down a little they were still consistently over 12 knots. Few sailors that didn’t get a second race that day were disappointed; they probably needed a respite after all the previous races (and partying).
I was getting my 2 free volunteer Heineken beers at the bar when the mainline act, Koffee, did her sound checks. I had been ambivalent about staying around that long and late. But I wasn’t greatly impressed by her voice and music selection so that sealed it for me. I donated my entry wristband to someone who would use it.
The prizegiving ceremonies went smoothly, with Robbie Ferron and Dr. Soc presenting jointly. My hands were tingling from excessive clapping by the time the last prizes were given out, though. This marked the end of Heineken Regatta Day 4 for me. I had eaten and imbibed sufficient beer and was a bit sunburned so returned home to Zanshin.
