Morning
I had an early conference call so woke up long before the sun rose above the horizon. It is going to be a full work day at the office today. The typical Caribbean weather has returned and the sun is now shining with cooling trade winds caressing the boat.
After repairing the watermaker yesterday it decided to stop working correctly. The Newport 400 unit should produce about 14 gallons per hour, or I use the 1-liter-per-minute value. When I tried running it the output was only 5 gallons per hour. The water high-pressure pump sounded very strange and loud as well. I looked at the main device and noticed a slight drip. It seems that I’d loosened one of the feed lines slightly and that introduced an air leak into the system. Once I tightened that the whole system started purring along again. After one hour I’ve almost filled one freshwater tank again.
The strong winds in the past week have also loosened the screws on the metal frame of the bimini and dodger. One such bolt fell overboard while another just dropped out. During my next coffee break from work I’ll go around all the connectors above deck and make sure everything is nice and tight again.
Breakfast
It is 9am now and I was going to make some eggs with bread for breakfast, but my eggs are way past their best-by date and I cracked them open overboard to give the fish hiding under my hull some protein. I’ll just have to make another coffee to tide me over until lunchtime.
Lunch
I took a swim for lunch, armed with mask, fins and a small paint scraper. Thusly armed, I scraped much of the seaweed and growth from the waterline on both sides of the boat, but the wind is gusting and made that job a bit more difficult than I’d wished. I used the swim time as a pre-shaving hair softener to make shaving that much easier. The shower off the back of the boat was necessary to get all the green gunk out of my hair and off my skin.
Happy Hour
My only trip ashore was relatively brief. I dropped off my garbage then sat down at Max’s Place for a Carib at happy hour and to watch the crowds there and across the dock at Quai 58.
I had a small snack for dinner then tried to watch some YouTube videos about the programming language, Python.
