Weekend in Grand Case – literally, as today is Sunday and the end of the week. The weather conditions are much better and I woke up early as result of going to sleep too early.
I’ve already worked on the engine, getting the ODBII cable extender that Sascha had brought along installed and tested. This is easier said than done, since I need to remove everything from a storage locker in the galley, then access the 6 nuts that hold the airtight cover of the engine electronics in place. But I’m now a seasoned professional in that part of the engine compartment. It went quickly, I didn’t lose any tools or shed any blood. That’s a good start to the day.
The next task was a nice swim. Armed with a paint scraper, I went around the waterline tried scraping the collected seaweed away. The growth is always much heavier on the starboard side due to the path of the sun and the prevailing wind direction. After the swim I had to scrub away the weed in the shower to avoid smelling like sargassum.
Noon
Weekend in Grand Case now means going ashore for lunch (or shopping for lunch ingredients). The winds had pushed one dinghy under the dock, so I set a stern anchor and had rescued 2 oars that were drifting away. One of the bartenders came by and told me which dinghy they belonged to (the one in the picture above).
I walked up and down the street and instead of returning to Zanshin hungry I had lunch at the Ribs Shack. All of the LoLos were doing great business and I was lucky to get a seat, even if I was downwind of some smokers.
Afternoon
After the heavy lunchtime meal I find myself procrastinating doing additional boat tasks. But I will go swimming again and do a second run at the seaweed and growth on the waterline. While that doesn’t really count as “work” I’ll pretend it does.
Evening
I was so engrossed in my book that I missed the opportune time to go ashore for dinner, so I made a small snack aboard instead.
