Morning
I woke up early, refreshed after a relatively calm night. There is a small swell of around 50cm coming in from the north, but the period is almost 15 seconds. This means that when reaches shallow water and the shore the energy gets released. Long periods mean more energy; and the surfers are loving it. The sailors aren’t. It is going to be a slow Saturday in St. Martin for me and I’ll be ashore for most of it to avoid the rolling.
I decided to add a Heineken Regatta 2023 page to the site, and while playing around with the page settings I managed to destroy both my header and footer for the whole site (I thought I was deleting them from just the one page)! That took a while to repair and now I’m not so sure about adding that page after all. But I’ve screwed my courage to the sticking place and gone ahead with the page after all.
Noon
I was just about to done my swimming gear when I saw what I thought were barracuda hovering around the boat. Checking the pictures I took, I realized that they most likely large tarpon. I won’t need to worry about entering the water.
What little wind there is today is shifting and I’ve been close to the sunken wreck, then next to the channel marker in about an hour. But I’m comfortable that I won’t bump into either.
It still is a slow Saturday in St. Martin as I’m updating this page now instead of swimming and cleaning the hull!
Early Afternoon
The hull is now somewhat cleaner. My snorkel is leaking a bit and after a while I need to get rid of the taste of saltwater. And this time I needed a serious scrubbing to get the green stuff off my skin and to remove the smell. Many small fish congregated around me as I scraped the hull, and the two tarpon were watching the small fish. All that was missing was an even bigger fish watching the tarpon!
Many yachts went into the lagoon on the 3PM bridge and I was worried that they were fleeing a swell that I didn’t know about. The boat still rocks on occasion, but it isn’t so bad at the moment.
Dinner
I first went to the SMYC for company and then couldn’t resist going to the Tap & Still again for their tasty burger. I’d been talking with someone at they SMYC about food and burgers on island and this triggered my hunger.
I’d bought some coffee, milk and hot-dog rolls and had planned on grilling a hot-dog on the BBQ for dinner. That won’t be necessary now.
