2023-02-04 More shopping

Morning

I woke up early and worked on my shopping list for more shopping while sipping at my coffee. I’d made one list for chandlery items and another for groceries. I’d only bought about 3/4 of the items the previous day. Somehow, the 2 new lists looked about the same length as those from yesterday…

Travel

I drove from Grand Case to Cole Bay and this short trip took around an hour-and-a-half because of heavy traffic. I left Grand Case at around 10AM and thought that I’d slip through between the morning and noon traffic. It was heavy in both directions almost the whole way. For a stretch of about 2KM in Marigot the pedestrians were significantly faster.

Electec

First stop was ELECTEC for IP65 CAT-6 cable connectors, a good cable crimper and 24VDC LED lighting. These are for the Starlink RV antenna so that I quickly mount and connect it on deck and permanently run a cable. They didn’t have the connectors and I ended up not getting anything this time.

Island Waterworld

Then came Island Waterworld for a new locking cable for the dinghy. That cable had actually snapped as I put on the lock…  I wanted some nice stainless steel chain for the lock, but at US$22 per foot I felt that was a bit much. They have pre-confectioned cables for a lot less. I really think that the cable and lock are just there to keep honest people honest. A real thief will come prepared and chew through both lock and cable without breaking step.

Budget Marine

Next was Budget Marine for a secure U-Bolt for the lock and to get the Raymarine USB-Port extender. I want this so that I can download the track files to an SD-Card without having to dismantle the chart plotter.

Ace Hardware

Then came a stop at Ace Hardware to get a screw-tapping kit so that I could drill through my fishing rod holder and put in a holding bolt to keep the Starlink antenna from going swimming. They had a metric kit, but at $120 I felt that I could do better going to a machine shop and having them tap it for me.

Carrefour

Carrefour for the remainder of my grocery shopping came next. I managed to get about half of the items on my list before departing with the intent of getting the rest later on.

La Palette

Finally, on the French side, I went to a household items store to get a small microwave to replace the broken one on Zanshin. They didn’t have anything close to the right size, so I managed to escape that store without spending anything.

I returned to Grand Case for more shopping at Hope Estate. The electronics store didn’t have the printer cartridges I needed. They had a microwave that was 1cm too high to fit into the enclosure on the boat and another microwave that was far too small. Another cheap shopping destination for me.

Cadisco / Europcar

Finally I filled up the rental car at the local Cadisco gas station and returned it. I didn’t need to return it until tomorrow morning, but since I didn’t need it anymore and didn’t want to risk a Saturday night of parking in Grand Case  it was best returned early.

Evening
Bar 58 in Grand Case

There’s still a filet mignon left over from Sandra’s and Sascha’s visit and that is heating up in the sous vide as I write. That’ll form the main course for dinner, and I’ll either make rice or boil some potatoes to accompany the steak.
