Today we are off to Île Fourchue.
Morning
I woke up early and did some work before returning the rental at 08:00. When I returned to the boat Sandra and Sascha were up and about and we made coffee.
Unfortunately, the bakery I’d planned on getting baguettes and croissants at had recently shut down. The neighboring store owner just gave me a gallic shrug (despite being Chinese) and said “Thanks, EDF“.
Noon
I had conference calls that filled my morning until noon, after which we raised anchor and motored around the corner into Anse Marcel. Although shallow and well-protected, there always seems to be a base swell which prevents comfortable overnight stays.
This was the case today, but we weren’t planning on staying. There were lots of turtles up and about and the resort has been rebuilt.
The Capitainerie was closed for lunch until 14:00 so we walked around the grounds and ended up at Blue Sail Hotel for lunch. I only ordered a sandwich but it was perfect – one of the best I’ve had, anywhere.
Afternoon
After completing our exit clearance we departed and set sail. It was an upwind stretch towards Ile Tintamarre and we had to tack three times, and then opted to skip Ile Tintamarre in favor of Ile Fourchue. The boat at anchor off Tintamarre was rolling and that was a bad sign. Because of all the growth on Zanshin we didn’t make our usual speed and arrived in the dark instead of at sunset. There are a number of very big boats anchored there and I didn’t want to sneak through the pack at night. So we anchored far outside and it was correspondingly choppy/rolly.
Our plans for BBQ burgers changed when it was evident that Sascha wasn’t feeling well, a combination of vertigo and stomach problems. Since our lunch had been both plentiful and late we opted to skip dinner.
