Sunrise
There was loud music ashore last night, but since the Soggy Dollar Bar is only about 100 yards away that was to be expected, and the volume was decent (as was the music). It stopped at around 01:00 and it was very calm aboard in the protected lagoon waters. It is down to the wire, the last fixes then Sandra and Sascha arrive!
I’m up and about, waiting for the stores to open at 08:00. Mark has already dropped by to pick up my battery tester and jumper cables to diagnose his batteries and I’m ready to try my hand at the quick-disconnect faucet again.
Morning
Sandra and Sascha e-mailed from Charles de Gaulle saying that they were on the plane and ready to go. I’ll have to follow their flight online (they departed, but somewhat delayed and the website shows them arriving 30 minutes late).
After the morning work online I started working on the sink and shower. I zipped ashore and walked up to Ace Hardware to get a faucet. It turns out that there are 2 different faucet systems – the American and the European. My boat is European, so the faucet attachments wouldn’t fit.
I went back down to Island Waterworld and they had adapter fittings, so I got those and walked back up to Ace to get a faucet.
Upon returning to Zanshin I found that the diameter of the new fitting was just a bit too wide for the current hole in the countertop, so I proceeded to enlarge the hole with my chisel and hammer (lacking other tools).
I couldn’t postpone the task as there is no separate valve for the forward water system so I had the whole boat turned off. These last fixes before Sandra and Sascha arrive are stressful.
I managed to complete the installation with little additional damage to the boat and as I finished I got an e-mail from Sandra and Sascha telling me they were at the SMYC bar already – I’d somehow lost an hour and had misjudged the arrival time.
Afternoon and Evening
We met up returned to the boat to store their items before going back ashore and watching the 5 o’clock opening and then heading to Buccaneer’s for a spicy and tasty pizza while watching the sun set.
