Today was spent chilling and decompressing at the hotel and on the beach. Also, in and over the water plus some serious pool time.
Jet lag wasn’t an issue, and I had a good sleep and woke up in time for breakfast. Fortified by some fruit, coffee and an omelette I headed to the marina. Zanshin was in good shape at the dock. The little water leak in the top deck has cause some damage and I’ll have to find the source ASAP.
I got my shorts and a T-Shirt and returned to the hotel. After a generous application of SP50 I went swimming and let the warm Caribbean waters relax me. Ashore I noticed a Hobie cat and asked if it was available. Not only was the Hobie Wave available, but its use was also included in the hotel fee! Although the last time I was on Hobie was about 40 years ago I got a quick instructional course and was soon off the beach. Compared to big catamarans and sailboats, the little Hobie is very responsive and also unforgiving. I got the hang of it and sailed around the anchorage for an hour. I was only “in irons” twice during tacking. I’ll give it another spin tomorrow.
I went into the pool afterward and tried out the waterside bar for a cool drink and was, unfortunately, sitting right next to the blender. And it seemed that everyone was drinking icy mixed drinks. Heavily. Then the lunchtime quiz started and got the crowd excited. Since all the drinks were included, there was little prize incentive but that didn’t bother anyone.
I repaired to a shaded bench and dozed for a bit, then read a book until dinner. I wasn’t going to make it to the Friday night Street Party in Gros Islet this time around as I was tired. And I also managed to survive my first day without getting a sunburn.
