Fine particles from the generator repair have made a mess of my cabins. The engine and generator compartments are heavily soundproofed with a foam material that has a thin glued-on film attached to the outside. This always starts to peel and flake off and I don’t know why they have never fixed that problem.
During my repair work on the generator these flakes got all over the boat and made a big mess in every cabin. So today’s main job is to clean up these residual pieces resulting from the repairs.
Lunch
I went ashore for lunch at Bar B’s and ordered a BLT. I didn’t want any French fries but asked for extra crispy bacon. The toasted roll arrived with just crispy bacon on it and nothing else… and the server asked if I’d wanted lettuce and tomato with that and although I thought to myself “That’s what BLT stands for!” I just said “yes” and the plate was whisked away to be returned with both tomato slices and some green lettuce. And when I’d finished that small meal I had to wait for 15 minutes before I could pay the bill, even though only 3 other tables were taken and one of them ordered, ate and paid their bill before I could pay. I think I won’t be eating there again in the near future – rather than complain I’ll just vote with my feet.
The phone store was open and I finally managed to get a SIM card with a data plan and now I can actually work aboard the boat as of tomorrow. On the way back the group of 8 Norwegian girls was once again waiting for their ride and took up my offer to return them to their boat. How could I refuse? Their boat is a Bavaria 48 sans mast, they lost it on the Atlantic crossing and are still waiting on the replacement to get finished.
Dinner
I felt a bit of a scratchy throat in the afternoon and hope that this doesn’t mean I’m getting COVID-19 or a cold; perhaps it is just an allergy to something blooming. I walked down the road towards English Harbour and most of the places were closed for Monday so I returned to Club Sushi and chose a vegetarian sushi platter for dinner. I retired early and slept fitfully with the scratch throat getting worse during the course of the night.
