COVID Travel Restrictions
Travel in these times of COVID-19 has become complex. But I am finally returning to the Caribbean! While I was fortunate to get a relatively early vaccination, it was the one-shot Janssen vaccine, and since then, the rules have changed somewhat. That vaccine is now considered sub-optimal, and I need a “booster” shot to be considered fully vaccinated. And just after I got that shot, the rules changed yet again. Now that “booster” was to get me fully vaccinated, and I needed another “booster”. So now I’ve got one shot of all three common vaccines and should be good to travel (for a while).
Flying to St. Lucia
Flying from Germany to St. Lucia is not straightforward. The standard flight search engines all show me 35+ hour flights via the USA, at very high rates.
If I book Air France to Martinique, a mere 50 km from my destination, I can get there in 13 hours. But with only two ferries and three flights a week, I found my preferred travel dates were already sold out.
And flying to St. Martin or Antigua meant I would have to take my chances with LIAT airlines. I’ve flown with them frequently in the past and believe I’ve only had one on-time flight to date. I try to avoid flying with them at all costs.
So in the end, I opted for a lengthy trip via an overnight stay in Toronto. I was able to book using frequent-flyer miles and splurged. So now I will have the luxury of flying business class for the journey to the Caribbean.
Germany in the Winter

While the frog sign signals the arrival of spring, the weather is still quite cold here in my current project location in southern Germany.
While the town is bucolic and scenic, it remains just a temporary home while I work for my current employer, and I yearn for the warmth of the Caribbean island chain.
