While it is great to be back aboard the boat and take a couple of days of “Time-Out”, I did feel the need for stretching my legs so I took the dinghy ashore to Prickly Pear island and walked along the path to the north side. The path to the top was faint but I followed it for a bit until I realize I was following a goat trail and not a human trail but the undergrowth on the island is quite sparse so I muddled my way to the top of the hill and was rewarded with some pretty views of Sir Richard Branson’s private island “Neckar” and I could make out distant Anegada from this vantage point.
Back aboard I tackled cleaning up the lazarette locker (not a fun task as some machine oil had spilled and I had to clean out every item in there. I then clean up the windlass which had been gummed up by the rusty chain. The rust flakes had stuck to the magnet used for the chain counter, rendering it unusable and the rust had done a job on the smooth surfaces of the winch as well. That task took longer than expected, as do most tasks on boats. I also fixed the solar charging system and put some silicone sealant around the through-hull so that no water can get in through the wooden teak planking.
