There was no wind during the night and while this may sound nice, it meant that Zanshin was circling around the mooring and would roll around quite a bit at certain angles to the shore; but I still got sufficient sleep. I woke up at sunrise and received an e-mail with a possibility of work in Europe, and as is always the case, they wanted me to start yesterday, if not sooner. This means that I’m going to head north again and make my way to the BVI in order to put Zanshin to sleep for the season. There was no wind in the anchorage but I could see wind in the waves outside so I left at around 08:00 with two reefs in the main and no genoa, as I wanted to motorsail through the relatively tricky waters of “The Narrows” between the islands of St. Kitts and Nevis. The narrows were made more challenging with a peppering of fish pots and just as I entered them a large rain-shower moved through and brought visibility down to less than 200 feet. But the radar and GPS got me through that part (and the Mark-I eyeball was used to play dodge-em with the fish pots) and once on the other side I put up the genoa with 2 reefs and we were soon zipping along towards St. Martin on a beam reach at speed; averaging just over 8 knots for the whole trip and with peak speeds of 10.7 knots (probably while going down a wave). I decided to break off early and spending the rest of the afternoon and night at Île Fourchue rather than in St. Martin.
