2014 Trip 2014-04-19

Today was one of those days aboard where you take care of tasks, read, repair and wait out the weather. Showers continually passed through, hopefully washing away the remains of salt spray and waves from the recent passages. Between showers I would open the hatches to let in fresh air but I felt like I was getting an aerobic workout or at least getting some good stretching done as I had to continually either open or close the hatches. The wind was howling through the anchorage, at times it was a steady 30 knots but occasionally it would gust even higher and when I did go topsides I felt like I would have to hang on to something in order not to blow away. I’ve never even thought about jacklines while at anchor but today was a day that I actually did, as I went forward to clean/dry stainless after a shower had passed through the anchorage and really did need a hand for the ship and one for myself.

My only sortie ashore was for much-needed baguettes and I returned to the boat somewhat soaked from the spray. I worked on programming an Arduino integrated circuit today in order to read the output data from my Xantrex battery monitor today but in the end I had to postpone that project, since the plugs I have won’t fit into the RJ11 socket on the back of the instrument. Afterwards I soldered around a bit and am now working on an Arduino project to measure and log the temperatures in my fridge and freezer, and also programmed a bit of logic to make the Arduino actually control the fridge and freezer digitally while still logging the duty cycle and temperature information. If the winds persist I’ll have that project finished shortly.

My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.

Every.  Single.  Page.

So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.

The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
