Today is going to be short entry in the blog. It started around 3AM in the morning with abdominal pain that got worse as the night progressed. I would just lay there and be afraid to move as that would cause severe pain. By the time I realized this wasn’t just a bad day but something more serious it was around dusk and I went through my Where there is no Doctor and realized that I probably had a bladder or urinary tract infection or I was heading towards appendicitis. I did the standard tests for appendicitis and didn’t have the major symptom, a pain on the “Bounce” after applying pressure. While it was painful, the uncertainty was tougher to deal with; since appendicitis and the subsequent Peritonitis could be fatal while the others were merely bothersome. In the end I took the recommended dosage of amoxicillin from my medical chest (unfortunately, 4 years out of date already) which was higher than the book recommended but was in the packaging – two dosages 6x 500mg tablets twelve hours apart for bladder problems (and, I was pleased to read, it would also cure the Clap should I have it!). I took an anti-inflammatory and tried to sleep. I couldn’t find a comfortable position but was very happy to have a quiet night at anchor, since each time I had to use my stomach muscles it hurt and the “Starfish” requires both hand and stomach muscle use when the boat is rolling around.
I was miserable today. I made it on deck in the cockpit and only managed to do one splice all day, when a slew of little Optis and Lasers came by I couldn’t find the energy to go below for the camera until the good shots were gone, so I got one little picture so that my blog wouldn’t be completely empty!
