The bruising on my stomach made for difficult sleeping as every movement caused a bit of discomfort, but I remain happy that I got away with such relatively minor damage. I puttered around the boat in the morning, not having a lot of energy to do anything involving movement. Michael (from the engine-less dinghy of the day before) came by to ask how I was and we had an espresso and talked, since it turns out that he is from Austria. He and his wife were on the their last day in the BVI after a 3 week charter from Sunsail. He said that he has skipper’s liability insurance and that he would try to make a claim based on that, but I’m not too sanguine about the chances of the insurance company accepting the claim, although it would be very nice to get reimbursed for the new camera and lens – but it feels a bit odd to get paid for one’s own stupidity.
I tried the dinghy engine again and it still purred along without more than a little hiccup so I tied it down to the dinghy transom and slowly motored ashore to see Pirate’s temporary bar and restaurant, which I’d heard was nicer than many other permanent places in the BVI and the rumors were true. The construction site of the new bar is not progressing quickly, perhaps they realize that they have quite a bit of time until next season, since the won’t come close to finishing this season. I met up with the crew of Somewhere at lunch and also met the Petra and Michael Bartl who asked me to join them for a trip to the Willie T’s later and subsequent dinner at Pirate’s afterward.
We met up at 17:00 and headed to the Willie T’s, where the party was already going strong. We got our drinks, headed upstairs and met a group from another boat who were from both the USA and Austria, so the conversation turned to a mix of languages and, far too soon, it was 18:00 and time to dine. While not inexpensive, the portions were large and quite tasty and the ambience of the location overlooking the waters of The Bight along with good company made for a great experience. To my surprise, they wouldn’t let me pay for my share of dinner – I guess that Michael had almost had as big a shock as I had when both the running outboard and myself flew overboard the day before; although it was my own stupidity that exacerbated the situation. After the meal we had an espresso and whisky/rum aboard Zanshin before retiring for the night.

2014 Trip 2014-01-08
My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.
Every. Single. Page.
So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.
The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
