Despite several calls to the airline, the news was mixed – some of the people I spoke with tracked the bag en route to St. Thomas, others told me that there was no such bag and I should call some (other) number. I am really quite disappointed in how the airline is handling this. The odds of getting the boat into the water with the new rudder are nil today, so I cancelled the appointment and arranged to get Zanshin launched by noon tomorrow (which is when the yard closes up for a couple of days). I did get aboard Zanshin and nothing inside is amiss, but there is quite a bit of work to be done on the decks with cleaning. The original bottom paint was put on quite thin and one of folks at the yard offered to put on two coats of Interlux Micron 66 (a popular hard paint) after prepping the hull and I decided to have that done since the boat is going to be in the water for a couple of months and I was getting tired of diving every couple of weeks to clean the hull from growth.
I did get a chance to say hello to those I know from BVI Yachts Sales, the Yard, Swain Sailing, etc. so the day went by pretty quickly. Despite promises from the airlines for an expedited delivery, the computer systems traced the bag arriving at St. Thomas airport (STT) at 1pm but after that it disappeared, once again I was told that the bag had either never arrived, or was on a truck to the Ferry, or was lost after arriving… <sigh>
I had a tasty dinner at Captain Mulligan’s but didn’t sleep all that well since I wasn’t too sanguine about my chances the next day and didn’t know what I was going to do if things didn’t work out.
