After a slow morning I motored over and anchored at Gun Creek in order to clear out of the BVI with destination St. Martin. The website showed 08:00 to 16:00 as their opening hours and I wasn’t sure about their lunch hours. I now know, having arrived there at 12:30 in time to see the “Closed” sign being put up. I was told that I should come back at 13:30 and I did return then, within a couple of minutes they opened up and completed the exit formalities and have my “Zarpe” (exit papers) showing I’ve cleared out of the last country and this document will be required for me to clear into my destination. I plan on having an early dinner aboard and then sleeping until around midnight and then proceeding under sail and motor to St. Martin. The winds are relatively favorible, from the ENE and my course is ESE so I should be able to use the sails to give me a lot of energy and use the engine to let me point closer to the. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to use the genoa that close to the wind, but I’ll find out soon.
After completing the exit formalities I motored over to the shallow sandy area off Leverick Bay and instead of heading to their BBQ all-you-can-eat and the Jumbies show I decided to get the boat and dinghy ready for the passage and make my own BBQ aboard the boat in order to have an early evening and get some sleep prior to midnight.
The marinating and thawing steak smells fantastic every time I open up the container; must be my special sauce mix plus the 2 cloves of crushed garlic I added. I know I should wait a bit longer before firing up the BBQ but my stomach is grumbling loudly and I don’t think I can wait much longer.
