Today was a busy day indeed. Vernon had to finish one side of the hull, I had to get the dinghy ready, return the rental car, get fuel for the dinghy and check-out of the marina. Despite all that I managed to get ready for departure before noontime and then procrastinated leaving the dock for another hour. When I finally departed it took a while to get all the fenders in and the dinghy ready for a trip since the large area that used to be free in front of the dinghy dock at Nanny Cay has now been used by dockage space so I had to do all that work out in the swell of the Sir Francis Drake channel and I have yet to get my sea-legs. Despite the challenging start, I put out a minimum of mainsail and the equivalent of about 4 reefs in the genoa and crossed the channel bound for “The Bight” on Norman Island doing about 5 knots in 12-15 knots of wind. I thought I’d start off with a very conservative sail plan while I got back into the swing of things aboard. “Zanshin” is now anchored between a couple of megayachts on the side of the anchorage furthest from the Willie T’s – tonight is Sunday and both Superbowl and local’s night so I’m expected quite a bit of noise and I’m currently more in the mood for a quiet evening.
I did some work getting rid of rust in the cockpit and fired up the barbie after sunset for a tasty rib-eye steak with potatoes and enjoyed my first evening on the boat at anchor. There was a bit of partying going on in the Bight but overall it was quiet and after my busy day I was asleep very early indeed.
