A quiet day aboard, with an early start at La Sucrière to catch up on e-mails and from there back aboard to do the collected laundry and clean up all the small stuff that I’ve been postponing – my term for procrastinating. The navigation table in particular needs some work as I’ve been throwing everything into the big drawer while telling myself “I’ll sort that out later”.
As I was hanging up the second load of laundry I noticed that a 36 foot charter boat with two people aboard was having some sort of problem raising their anchor and was almost hitting the boats around them, so I hopped into the dinghy and went over to see if they could use some assistance – they could. Their anchor windlass wasn’t working and they didn’t know how to use the manual method (loosening the central nut with a winch handle then using an excenter notch to crank in chain over the gypsy) and I went aboard to help. With 3 people the job was easier and in short order the job was done and we had a short argument (which I lost) as I wanted to get aboard my dinghy without the 3 cans of Heineken that they were giving me for my help. Although I’m not a fan of Heineken I’ll have one or two of them at happy hour in their honour!
I took a quick trip across the lagoon but managed to visit Budget Marine without buying anything, doubtless a record for me, and returned to the French side with some groceries for the fridge and nothing for the boat.

Winter 2011-2012 Trip 2012-01-27
My old hosting company, who will remain unnamed although their name starts with “go” and the end rhymes with “baddy”, changed their software with little notice and the original SV-ZANSHIN.COM site stopped working overnight.
Every. Single. Page.
So I’ve transitioned to another provider. These original pages have been migrated, but all the formatting and other features are gone and the will still contain numerous display issues and formatting anomalies.
The manual effort of conversion is too much and not worth the effort involved. Over 1000 blog diary pages like this one are going to remain in this condition. The pictures are full-scale, but won’t expand when clicked. But you can can copy them to view them in their original splendour.
