The day of departure has finally come! We left the dock in the early hours of this morning and motored the long way up the coast until we made the turn to the southeast and put up our sails and turned off the engine. Despite passing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge (well, going over the tunnel portion of it) quite early, it wasn’t until the afternoon that we passed the last marker buoy at sea and were outside of coastal waters and well upon our way to distant St. Martin.
The wind was just forward of our beam and we made good speed – zipping along to our crossing of the Gulf Stream and entering warmer waters so that we could peel off all those layers of clothing.
